Module Brief Semester 1

For this module students are required to create a body of work that evidences progression and development of your ideas through each semester. Towards the end of semester one, you will be asked to submit your work in an A1/ A2 portfolio and well as an online digital portfolio/blog along with a written assignment. You will then receive feedback on your work. The same process will occur in semester two.

Semester 1

  1. A physical portfolio of A1/A2 drawings in a variety of media. These physical drawings should also be uploaded to a blog/online portfolio.
  2. A number of sketchbook(s)
  3. A 1000 word learning report/reflective essay, complete with references and bibliography, printed out and submitted with your physical portfolio.
Learning report / reflective essay question:

In relation to your own practice, compare and contrast approaches to 'drawing' of three different artists.

At least one artist should be pre 1900 and the second should be post 1900. The third practitioner can be from any era of your choice. Make sure that you give examples from your own work and that of the artists you are writing about.

Don't simply write descriptively, write reflectively. Write about your feelings, anxieties, errors and weaknesses, as well as strengths and successes and how you expect to progress in the future. You can find another guide to reflective writing here.

The University of Worcester also has a Study Skills page on it's website to help you with academic study so please make use of it! If you are using examples from text books you will need to use Harvard Referencing.

A list of artists and text books for this module can be found in Part 8. 'Contextual Sources' section of the Module Guide on this Blog.
